The Maine Through Year Assessment is given three times per year to 10th grade students. Fall and Spring administration are requirements of the State Department of Education. These tests give us some idea of the understanding our students have at this time in their education and help us to recognize areas where individual students and cohorts of students might need more instruction in order to master their skills in math and reading skills.
NWEA tests are no longer required for high school students, though we do still administer them to our freshman students in their math and English classes each year. These tests, like our MTYA tests, give us benchmark information on which to base instruction for our students.
The SAT is no longer regularly administered in the state of Maine as an assessment of learning. However, some colleges like to have SAT scores as a consideration in admissions. Registration for the test, which can be taken at several area locations, should be undertaken individually. Students must register online at www.collegeboard.org at least one month prior to the test date. Our guidance staff can supply information for registering for the test.
