Central High School is proud to announce that Makenzie Rushlow is this year's Principal's Award Winner. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals' Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior's academic achievement and citizenship. Makenzie is a standout student and valedictorian for the class of 2024. She is also a standout athlete, a senior captain for soccer and indoor track, and is a jumper and sprinter in both indoor and outdoor track. Makenzie is also the current president of the National Honor Society and a member of the school Envirothon team. Here are some quotes from her teachers which they wanted to share in celebration of Makenzie and all her accomplishments here at CHS:
"What truly sets Makenzie apart is her unwavering commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. She approaches challenges with a positive attitude, eagerly seeking opportunities to expand her knowledge and skills. Whether it's conducting experiments, analyzing data, or presenting findings, Makenzie consistently strives for nothing short of excellence."
- Janelle Maheux - Science Teacher
"Kenzie continues to be a valued member of my advisory group. She has actively participated in many events that benefit our CHS community, including (but not limited to) clearing thorns and brush during Spring Fling, volunteering during our NHS blood drives, and collecting Easter eggs for our troops overseas. I am so incredibly pleased to learn of her receiving this award!"
- Mr Cary Libby - Advisor
"Mackenzie is as genuine as they come. Aside from her excellence in academics and excellence in athletics, it is her superior integrity and outstanding character that sets her apart. I have witnessed Kenz handle a tumultuous conflict amongst her peers, where she demonstrated grace, poise, and remained steadfast in her truth. She did not alter from what she believes in and stands for, as others around her tried to sway her position, and yet she did this in a manner that maintained her relationships and how others view and portray her in a leadership role. This was truly most outstanding to witness, especially at such a young impressionable age."
-Terri-Lynn Fowler - Science Teaher and Project Adventure Advisor
Makenzie is a model student and citizen and we are, again, so proud to have her represent us at the MPA Principal Honors Luncheon. The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of ten $1,000 scholarships in the names of former Maine principals and MPA Executive Directors: Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler, and Richard A. Durost.
The Principal's Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine's school administrators.
